The Music Man will visit our school on these dates:

Nov. 9
Jan. 11

Abby Reinke students are treated to music assemblies from traveling music teacher John-Patrick Yeiser.  Mr. Yeiser impacts each student’s knowledge and interest in music through entertaining and educational assemblies.  "You can teach a child what a quarter note is and he will eventually get it," Yeiser says. "Or, you can let him be a quarter note and he will get it instantly."  Multi-cultural music is presented as children participate by singing and playing instruments of the world.  The following California Department of Education Content Standards for Music at each grade level are achieved: Artistic Expression, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, Aesthetic Valuing, as well as Connections, Relationships and Applications. The children are presented with music concepts such as melody, rhythm, harmony and notation.  They play instruments such as xylophones and drums ranging from primitive-tribal and homemade (junk band) creations to orchestra variations as well as computer generated sounds.  Performance and audience etiquette is reinforced. There are demonstrations of the families of instruments and how they developed over time and vary from culture to culture.  The children see how sounds are organized and how people throughout history have used patterns to express themselves. The children are encouraged to create their own instruments and songs.  They thereby enjoy the spirit of creativity in themselves and respect artistic expression in all people.
